Nikhil Seshagiri Rao, Ph.D.

Postdoctoral Researcher

Nikhil is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Advanced Biofuels and Bioproducts Process Development Unit (ABPDU). His current research focuses on investigating how bioprocess conditions contribute to microbial heterogeneity in bioreactors. With expertise in flow cytometry (FCM), Nikhil is developing imaging and analytical tools for real-time monitoring, enhancing process control and consistency in industrial bioprocesses.

Before joining ABPDU, Nikhil received his Ph.D. in Applied Microbiology from Lund University in Sweden. His research focused on understanding how bioprocess conditions affect the cell physiology of probiotic bacteria and their freeze-drying tolerance. He also worked in the biopharmaceutical industry, serving as a Manufacturing Executive at Biocon Limited, handling upstream processing of mammalian cells (CHO) for monoclonal antibody production, and as a Junior Manufacturing Executive at Bharat Biotech International Limited, focusing on downstream processing in vaccine manufacturing.
